Electronic Wage Statements

On March 7, 2018, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed legislation (H.F. 2240) allowing employers to provide employees with electronic wage statements. Specifically, on each regular payday, employers must provide each employee a statement showing the hours the employee worked, the wages earned, and deductions made from pay. Wage statements may be provided:

  • By mail.
  • By secure electronic transmission or by other secure electronic means. If an employee is unable to receive the statement by this method, then he or she must notify the employer in writing at least one pay period in advance, and the employer must provide the statement by one of the other permitted methods.
  • To the employee at his or her normal place of employment during normal working hours.
  • By providing access to view the statement electronically and then providing the employee free and unrestricted access to a printer to print it.

The law is effective July 1, 2018.
