May 31, 2018Database Security Breach Notification Law
On May 20, 2018, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards signed legislation (S.B. 361) amending the state’s Database Security Breach Notification Law. The law provides new definitions, protects against the disclosure of personal information, requires specific security procedures and practices, details data breach notification requirements, and updates violations.
The law is effective August 1, 2018.

Sexual Harassment Policy and Training for Public Employees
On May 17, 2018, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards signed legislation (H.B. 524) creating a mandatory policy prohibiting sexual harassment and providing for mandatory sexual harassment prevention training for public officers and employees.
The law is effective January 1, 2019.
