Disposal of Social Security Numbers
On June 6, 2017, Oregon Governor Kate Brown signed legislation (S.B. 769) prohibiting the disposal, or transfer to another person for disposal, of material or media that displays a Social Security number (SSN) unless the SSN is made unreadable, unrecoverable, or such result is ensured.
The law is effective January 1, 2018.
