Pregnancy Accommodations Act

On May 17, 2018, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster signed legislation (H.B. 3865) enacting the South Carolina Pregnancy Accommodations Act. The act combats pregnancy discrimination, promotes public health, and ensures full and equal participation for women in the labor force by requiring employers to provide reasonable accommodations to employees for medical needs arising from pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. The act also imposes new notice and posting requirements.

The law became effective May 17, 2018.

Workers’ Compensation

On May 17, 2018, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster signed legislation (S.B. 1027) amending S.C. Code Ann. § 41-27-370 (relating to unemployment) to provide that certain filing provisions imposed pursuant to a regulation or procedure of the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce do not apply to employers in South Carolina with fewer than 50 employees.

The law became effective May 17, 2018.
