On May 30, 2018, Vermont Governor Phil Scott signed legislation (S.B. 94) establishing a new remote worker grant program with a certification process, to verify new remote workers and their qualifying expenses for a grant, along with eligibility requirements and grant award amounts. For example, a new remote worker may be eligible for a grant of between $5,000 and $10,000 per year for qualifying expenses over the life of the program.
The law also creates the ThinkVermont Innovation Initiative to fund strategies accelerating growth for small (20 or fewer employees) businesses.
The law is effective July 1, 2018.

On May 28, 2018, Vermont Governor Phil Scott signed legislation (H.B. 711) adding crime victims to the list of protected classes in the state’s Fair Employment Practices Act and requiring an employer to provide an employee who is a crime victim with unpaid leave to attend related legal proceedings.
