In December 2017, the City of Spokane enacted a ban the box ordinance prohibiting employers from advertising restrictions on job applicants based on arrest or conviction records or inquiring into arrest or conviction records until after interview. The ordinance provides limited exceptions, establishes penalties, and enacts new chapters 09.02 and 09.03 of the Spokane Municipal Code.
The law is effective June 14, 2018; however, violations will not be imposed until after January 1, 2019.
